Firstly, I don't know a lot about Arcserve and/or Netware! I'm trying to help some colleagues of mine over the phone with their recently revived server. They are running Arcserve 6.10 on a Netware 4.11 server. I would like to know the following:

1. The server boots up to a command prompt, how do you get to the Arcserve menu (which I think is what used to be displayed permanently)?

2. Once the menu is up, I believe there are various Arcserve related options to select from. How do I check when the scheduled backup is set to run? Since the rebuild, I (and my colleagues) are not sure if the scheduling is still enabled/set.

3. If the scheduling is not set, how do I set it to run at a certain time?

4. How do I run an instant backup (just in case I foul up the scheduling!)?

It would be great if I could get hold of an Arcserve 6 manual but I can't seenm to find one. Unfortunately, the company that rebuilt the server is unavailable at the moment.

Thanks

Dan

well if it is a dos prompt then first Of all you need to boot the server OS - you can do this by typing :

server

you might need to change to nwserver or server.411 directory to do this depending.

Then once it's finished it's module load type astart6 at the server console (use alt-esc to get to the prompt if you need too).

Thanks vschumpy, I'll have a word with them today. I guess it's pretty intuitive once Arcserve is loaded i.e. to schedule a backup or run one immdeiately?

Thanks

Dan

err well as intuitive as a piece of software that old can be ;)

You can either backup from the server console, or find a Win 3.1/95/98 workstation and install the manager on that (or if you're lucky you have a manager directory on the server and you can run it from said workstation without having to install it again). Either way you will need the Novell's client agent for NetWare installed on the workstation if you want to use the GUI.
