Hi guys,

I've just got myself an 2924-switch and I have a hunch that something isn't alright with it.
I'm very new to using Cisco switches and so I need some input here..

I think I'm missing a few rows at the end, like the Motherboard assembly number, Motherboard serial number and the System serial number. Also I think I should have a base MAC address.. When I try to access the VSM through IE I get back %IP-4-ZERO_ADDR: Zero MAC address for 192.168.1.10 in ARP cache from the console.

Would you say that my newly bought switch is broken, or have I just missed something?

Kind regards,
Joakim Think for yourself. Know what you're doing. Question authority.

hmm, it works a little better now when I've set a MAC-address of my own. Still missing my serials though.. Think for yourself. Know what you're doing. Question authority.

Wow... It looks like maybe your boot loader is messed up. Try downloading a new Boot image.

Thanks for your reply, but I'm afraid something is seriously wrong here.
Last time it worked kind of properly I got this back on a cold boot.

After a reload here the switch now won't get pass DRAM-POST (1x isn't lit but all the others are). The only way to get somthing from the switch now is to unplug the cable, hold in the mode button, plug in the cable and relase the button. This way I get the normal boot loader menu.

The system has been interrupted prior to initializing the

the flash filesystem, and finish loading the operating

But now when I try to type anything - I can't! No letters are comming up in the console.. and I'm out of ideas. I use HyperTerminal and I've tripple checked the settings (9600 8-N-1). Also I've checked the cable/com and it's working all fine with one of the routers..

I've tried to do as a hard reset as I can, ie. remove the cover and unplug the powercable that connects the power outlet with the motherboard. Problem still persists though.

I need help. Anyone got any bright ideas? :)

This looks very much like a hardware problem. Try re-seating everything that looks removable (not too much in this box). If this does not help you have to return it. They used to have lifetime warranty. But they are end of life now and the best you can get is a refund and by a new one (2950-24).

Cheers *Rob

I'll forward this to my reseller and see if we can work out a solution.

Thanks,
Joakim
