OK, you folks helped with the last problem I need more of your knowledge please.
I am Running Arcserve 9.0 on Win 2000 server with a IBM 4560 SLX Library, GFS 5 day rotation (default setup). The library has scanning capability.

1. I wish to use barcode labels on my media for inventory.
2. will I see the scanlabel in the Device\ <slot> # (scan#) instead of the <slot : 4 1-GFS-WED- 9/03/03 label? or will I see in Device the date as you see above, and see the scan label in Serial # tab?
3. Why in the Prediction report does it show that the "following media can be used"
1. 1-GFS-Mon-bla bla
2. Blank Tape.
I just want to overwrite the old media each week(mon_thus). The problem is that if I leave a blank tape for Fridays backup Thursday trys and write to the bland taqpe I left for Friday instead of the week prior. Understand?
Thank you for your past help!!!

2. you will see the 1-GFS-WED- 9/03/03 ( tapename ) in the device manager and the barcodelabel in the serial# tab
3. the prediction reportt will show you which tapes maybe used for the next backup (ie. all tapes in the 'scratch set' of the media pool that belongs to the backup job). ARCserve will take the 'oldest' tape (the tape that was the longest time in the 'scratch set') first.
The reason that a blank media is mentioned is that blank media are ALWAYS accepted by ARCserve, no matter what scheme you use. When ARCserve cannot find a tape that matches the requirements (ie. tapes from the 'scratch set') then it will look for blank media.
If you keep to these rules the GFS works fine

regards

Thanks for the help, anyone know why arcserve dosn't see the tapes with the barcode?

Go into the Device Configuration Wizard and make sure the bar code reader checkbox is checked.
