Bad memory module and system stability

I ran memtest-86 on my system today and it reported an error on 3 tests at the same address.

But I'm not convinced that there is a problem with the memory. I'm thinking it's either just not entirely compatible or it's in the motherboard.

My question is, wouldn't truly bad memory make a machine unstable? The reason I ask is because this machine has been running with this memory in it for months continuously without a reboot, and it hasn't locked up or acted strange at all.

I did have one stick of bad memory that I removed a while ago, and that did make the machine freeze and do a lot of strange things.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

If you never write to the bad memory location you won't have a problem.
