Just aquired a server (production),and it seems the previous guy did not mirror rootvg

And what do you know, there is a baddisk on rootvg now!

lsvg -p rootvg
hdisk16
hdisk17

hdisk17 is going bad according to errpt

lspv -l hdisk17 has this:
/var
/tmp
/usr
/

Anyway I can be saved? I do have some free space on the SAN...

TIA

What type of errors are you seeing in the error report? Why is rootvg split up between 2 disks? If hdisk16 is large enough to fit all of rootvg I would use migratepv to move the contents of hdisk17 over there, replace hdisk17, and mirror the VG.

errpt shows
A668F553 for hdisk17

now, I am thinking on importing a PV (from SAN) into my rootvg, and moving my /usr fs into this SAN pv.

And then taking everything off hdisk17, and remove it and replace the disk.

Would this cause any problems?

Do you have boot support for those SAN disks? Do you use multipath software to access the SAN disks? Your rootvg PVs (or at least a quorum containing 1 good copy of all LVs) need to be available when booting in order to varyon rootvg and access the OS filesystems.

ah! thanks for the good tip/info! I guess I will abort this plan....

Not too sure if I have boot support for my SAN disk. I rather not try....I will just try to free up some space and see what I can do.

Thanks for the good tips everyone!
