Hi all!

I hace recently built a Windows server 2003 X64 with SQL 2000 on it. I am trying to do a backup and it keeps skipping the databases. I can backup a file on the server just not the databse. I am running Veritas 10d and have worked with them for over a week and all they could say is that it is a Microsoft problem and I need to contact them.

Has anyone been able to do a backup on this type of set up?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

You can't backup SQL files while SQL Server is running.

SQL Server locks the files in an open state so that they can't be read of modified while the SQL Server is running.

There are a couple of ways to backup the databases.

1. Use the SQL Server BACKUP DATABASE command to backup the databases to the disk then backup the backup files that it creates.

2. Get the SQL Agent from Veritas (it's probably not cheep) and use that to backup the databases directy to tape with Veritas.

3. Stop the SQL Server (which will kick everyone out of the server) and then backup the files. Restarting the SQL Server when the backup is done.
