I have a backup scheduled at night and every morning I see the error that "backup was not performed because no unused media was avaialable". Of course, the media has been used. If I have made one backup on it, it has been used. I want to overwrite tapes every so often (for example, every Monday I will overwrite the Monday tape). I have the job set to "overwrite media", but I still get this error. How would I get this backup program to simply use whatever media I put in the tape drive and overwrite it?

Thank You

We had this exact same thing. It's a pain, but we found the only way to make it work is set to format each tape and give it a name. Then tell backup which tapes it should expect on which days.

WoW! Can that be true? In the back of my mind I thought of that and then dismissed it, thinking "No. There is no way they could have made it that way." How backward can MS get? Apparently, quite a bit. Well, Thanks for your help. I will go and get busy labeling tapes and changing my schedule on a day by day basis.

I tried unsuccessfully for a few weeks to perform successful b-u's with the built in utility. I finally gave up! I now use the software from Veritas...it ROCKS! I have not had one problem with it whatsoever! It backs-up 15 gigs of data on two different servers nightly. The only error ever was when I scheduled to much data to be backed-up and it wouldnt fit on the tape.

Backup Exec, NT/2000, Server Edition,v8.6

Mention you heard it from me and I get a million dollars or something...JK
