Hi,

I've a big doubt about backups and archive logs.

We do a cold backup of our database every night with veritas. Now we want to start doing hot backups so we dont have to shutdown the database during the night. The database was in notarchivelog mode and now we've changed to archivelog. We want to continue using the veritas software to backup the database, but this software does not delete the archive logs after the backup is finished....

There is any recommendation on how to make the maintenance of these files??

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

We are also using a Veritas Backup Unit for DB backups.
We have scheduled Veritas to execute an RMAN script at regular intervals. We don't rely on Veritas to backup the logs, we just use it to copy the backups from the server to tapes.

Using the RMAN command as follows we backup the archive logs and delete them:

backup
filesperset 20
format 'al_%s_%p_%t'
(archivelog all
delete input);

Hope this helps.

Shetal
