Good day all,

I’ve inherited a Compaq Prolient server that I’d like to get a backup taken. I’ve also inherited a Sun DLT 7000 SCSI Tape Drive. I’ve plugged it into the SCSI port and I see it listed in device manager in “? Other Devices”. I do NOT see it as a possible destination when trying to do a backup using “backup” that came with 2003.
Any and all assistance will be appreciated…
Thanks

It should appear under Tape Drives rather than Other Devices.

What is the description it gives it?

2003 should see it as a standard DLT drive and use standard driver but perhaps Sun has put custom firmware into it so it isn't quite recognised. I know HP used to do that with their HP-UX boxes, despite all the drives being made by Quantum.

Unlikely that Sun would have a Windows driver I would think. Theoretically I suppose you could reflash the firmware to a Compaq version but unlikely to work.

You can pick up a Compaq internal or external DLT7000 on eBay for around $100 quite easily if you are careful so you might want to go that route.

Thanks for the reply.

The description it gives is actually correct, "SUN DLT 7000 Sequential Tape Drive".

Sounds like I should give up on this drive an get a more Windows friendly device...

That is a pretty normal description but I guess 2003 isn't treating it as a generic DLT7000 drive for some reason.

You might want to try the General Back-Up Discussion folder as well.
