We are running SBS 2000. Our tape drive died so we went with the Iomega 80 GB ext HDD. We have Veritas Version 5.0
on the server. When I try to backup our data files the backup stops at 4GB and says the media is full.
What can I do?
Why didn't you replace the tape drive? I just got through typing an essay on how external drives are not a good backup solution, especially if they are USB. Are you going to buy multiple drives, if not, you're not going to have a backup outside of that building. And disconnecting drives risks locking up the OS. Tape drives are much more stable.
Your issue probably has to do with the drivers that this old verison of Backup Exec is using...
I would look at getting a new tape drive personally. You can probably get away without updating Backup Exec, although you may find that only the latest version (Backup Exec 9), has the right drivers for such a new tape device.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.
