Backup to Disk, how to automate erasing media

I currently backup to a 1 TB storage unit. It works great, but I cannot figure out how to either erase or overwrite the data after one week. I have set the media to have a date it can change to overwritable, but it still does not. Any ideas? Thanks

Tools-option-media management - overwrite recycle before scratch and set the job to always overwrite. Not append / overwrite
