Hello,
I have backup exec v9.0 and I have 1 autoloader with 10 tapes, and 3 Western Digital (WDC) 250gig firewire drives all connected to one server. I use Media Set 1 for the Autoloader and I created additional media set for each of the WDC drives (3 total). My nightly backup job for the autoloader runs great and I have no problems there. My nightly job is 77gig total. I use an identical selection set no matter what the device is that I am actually writing the data to. So I have a total of 4 independent jobs each with a different schedule so they do not overlap yet the same selection set.
My selection properties for the job that runs on each WDC drive states to append to the disk and overwrite if need be. So backing up 77 gig should provide me at least 3 nights before I encounter a overwrite situation.
However, when I schedule a job on a WDC drive it runs ok the 1,2,and 3rd night but on the 4rd night where it would need to overwrite part of the 1st night to complete it is not working.
My questions are:
1. Is this the best way to accomplish having backup to disk backups to provide me the most restore options?
2. I do not want to do differentials so should I allow it to overwrite previous jobs or should I just tell it to overwrite the disk every night with each job run? That would waste 3 nights of possible backups per drive but it would be easy to do.
3. Am I correct that I need a seperate media set for each device?
Thanks
Tony
