I need to replace the current tape drive on our server, as were slowly heading towards backing up more than 24gig. Anyone know of the best and cheapest backup device that will backup say 80gig??

all solutions appreciated....price guides also!!

Its a real nice tape drive, hasn't failed on us yet!

Most drive specs give you the native, and max compression stats. Take the 40/80 for example. Uncompressed it will store a max of 40 GBs worth of data. At full maximum potetnial compression you will get a max of 80 GBs. Not everything you backup will be able to compress so nicely, so in this scenario, it'd be very very rare to actually hit the 80GB mark.

When tape drives are concerned...I always say overshoot the mark. That way 3 years down the line (hardware and warranty allowing) you could be using the same tape drive.

Just my advice!

Hope this helps!
