Backup solution for 2003

I would like to avoid purchasing backup software for my new exchange 3K3 server. We have only had to restore a lost email twice in the last year on our Exchange 5.5 using BackupExec with Exchange plugin. What would be the best strategy to backup and restore personal and public information stores?

Exmerge is a tool from microsoft that you can use to backup indiviual mail boxes. You can setup batch files to run and then use the backup utility that comes with windows to put that information on a tape. I am running Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 server and the backup program that comes with 2003 server can see and backup the exchange stores.

I too am in the same situation where i need to look for other methods to backing up since our current backup software will not work with exchange 2003 and windows server 2003.
