Backup server cannot see the tape drives

I am having issues with my backup server not seeing the tape drives anymore. I have Legato Networker 6.2 on a W2K server that is fiber attached to a SAN. I have a STKL180 library with 2 9840 drives, with the library SCSI attached to the backup server. The 2 9840 tape drives are fiber attached to the SAN.

The server is able to see the SCSI attached library, but not the tape drives. From the Device Manager, it doesn't automatically detect the 9840 drives, but I can add the drivers for the 9840s and it creates the devices. Does this mean that the server is actually seeing the devices, or doesn't necessarily mean it is seeing it? Running an inquire command, it sees the library but no tape drives.

Please help. Need to restore an important file, and getting nowhere. Thank you.

I think that if "inquire" doesn't see your drives, Networker don't see 'em too.
First try to check your HBA configuration (check drive and SCSI/LUN mappings) for example with Emulex HBA's you can use "elxcfg.exe" utility.

Sdeb,

Yes, we tried checking the elxcfg utility and the drives were showing up there, so that's why we were scratching our heads.

We finally just blew away the OS and reinstalled it and it was finally able to see the drives under the device manager and from the inquire command.

Thanks for your help!
