Via the integrated management maintenance webpage, we have a backup set for writing to the local pc card and I have another I set up to backup via ftp.

The options are:
DATA SETS and FULL BACKUP. Is it safe to say that selecting FULL BACKUP does the equivalent of DATA SETS with all options selected (Avaya Call Processing Translations, Server and System Files and Security Files)?

Thank you!

no...
full backup is missing something,, I forget what though

I have the system set to do 2 backups 15 minutes apart,,
1 set for full backup and the other set for translations, system, server and security files
I also have it set to keep 7 sets of backups on the flash card, and I rotate the flash card once a week. (I have 4 cards)(Even on the 128 mb card that came with the system, it has enough room for all the backups, the other 3 were 512mb $15.00 el-cheapo's from newegg)
So I always have a month of backups.. (had 3 s8500 units die within 3 months, so I am a little nuts on the backups)

Yes, a full backup saves all of the data sets that you could otherwise specify. It just doesn't perform a 'save translations' before doing the backup. If you're going to run a manual backup, just save the translations first & you should be fine.

From the Avaya help docs:
Full Backup
Choose this option to back up all the data sets listed above. This includes security data sets and files that configure both the Linux operating system and the applications, including ACP Translations. ACP translations are not automatically saved prior to backup

Chris

There is another problem if you use the Full Backup option. If you need to restore the database you are forced to restore the whole system, translations, security and configs. if you back them up individually, they you can restore just the pieces that you want.
