Hi

We recently upgraded to Arcserve 11.1. Since then the backups won't overwrite the tapes they should even though they are in the scratch set. It will only write on blank tapes. Any ideas?

Thanks

Are you using remote SQL database? If yes, the solution is to run SetupSQL.exe from ARCserve home directory - enter the proper information for remote SQL server, DO NOT overwrite the existing database. This operation will reconfig the SQL database and generate the 'stored procedures'.

Hi Pakilaci

Thanks for that. We're actually using a VLDB database for Arcserve.

Start by installing SP1.

Not sure but there might be a problem in the upgrade and the way this job is seeing the existing tapes. Try erasing them with a Quick Erase Plus and then lets see if after they are used and then end up in the scratch set if they are used as they should be.

Hi David

Thanks for that. Haven't gotten around to installing service pack 1 yet but it's on my to do list. I have been erasing the tapes using quick erase and it will write on them then. It's just that most days the log file informs me that it is looking for a blank tape for the next backup. I'm wondering is it because the database keeps corrupting that it doesn't know what tape it should be looking for?

Yes database corruption can cause it to loose track of which tapes to use.
