Backup Failed; Media Error

Veritas Backup Exec 9.1 using new media.
I am getting the following error:
"a00084ca - The data being read from the media is inconsistent."
When I look at the job log, it lists a series of 25 files...that all say "Difference encountered in file data"

What does this mean? The backup job itself looks like it has completed. How can I fix this?

sounds like bad tapes.

check your system log for errors, most notably Event ID 7.

though it could be errors with the files themselves.

It seems it is specific files. (the files vary nightly), but it always seems to be 25-30 different files which have the error "Difference encountered in file data".
I was able to do some test restores successfully...so do I need to worry that something is wrong with the backup or is it just these files?

I honestly would not worry too much about this, your backups are completing ina sucessful sate correct?? If so than I am guessing that the problem is that some files were opened during the course of the backup and that may be the root of the problem, but was you indicated too that you were able to perform a successful restore than thats all that really matters. I would check the settings in your properties setting of the Advance Open File Option under the TOOLS settings. that may be worth looking into.

Hope this helps )

We are getting the exact same error on a customers site, appears to have only started in the last few weeks and we cannot put it down to anything changing on the server. It is always files within the Exchange store but not the same files every single night. I have found lots of posts on various forums / websites with people having same issue but no resolution.

Also we are not getting any Event ID 7's etc.

Any one out there with any advice then it would be appreciated.

Regards
Debbie

Did anyone ever figure this out? I have this happening, and I followed all the Backup Exec troubleshooting articles. I can't find a reason that the jobs keep failing randomly.
