You do not need to stop the Domino server for this to work. This information came from Veritas themselves (we bought a support agreement) and we went through 2 weeks of them researching the problem. I guess us Domino admins are more rare than IBM would like us all to believe.
Here is the email. The hint came when we tried to back up the files through NT backup and realized that the problem was not with Windows or the file structure, but with Veritas.
I did find a specific difference between NTBackup and Backup Exec when backing up files in use. In 9.0 we introduced an option to automatically exclude active files from the backups. EDB, STM and LOG files are examples. Regardless of their activity state, Backup Exec will automatically skip these files from being backed up. I believe NTF, and NSF files are included in this list as well.
Please perform the following on the Media Server:
A. Regedit
B. Browse to HKLM\Software\Veritas\Backup Exec\Engine\Misc
C. With Misc highlighted, click Edit : New : DWORD value.
D. Type : Exclude Active Files for the key name and 0 for value.
E. Recycle the Backup Exec Services
Try to backup the Lotus files.
