Hi all,

I'm in a new job at a new business and I have discovered we need to radically improve our backup methods.

I'm looking at getting an LTO4 Ultrium drive - 800GB/1.6TB compressed. I alread have approval to upgrade but thre may be an issue with our backup software.

We currently have Backup Exec 9.1 installed. There are no LTO4 drives that I can find listed in the HCL for Backup Exec 9.1 - however, the docs I found on Veritas(now Symantec) support indicate that OEM Microsoft drivers may work fine but are not supported. So I'm in a "maybe it will work" situation.

The drive I'm looking at is an IBM TS2340 Tape Drive Q4 Bundle Kit - unfortunately, it doesn't appear to come with any backup software at all.

Has anyone had success using Backup Exec 9.1 with LTO 4 drives or do I have to either go with a drive that includes basic software or upgrade Backup Exec?

Thanks for the input,

9.1 is no longer supported by veritas or just about EOL. So your only option is to instlal 11d

The OEM drivers might work but the speed may be dreadful. I found my autoloader ran at about 3MB/min but using the right drivers took me up to about 6GB/min :)
