Our IT department is currently evaluating Backup Exec 10 Beta. So far, we are liking the new Centralized management features. We can see already, that it is going to make managing our 100 standalone BE backup servers a breeze.

I was wondering if anybody else has given it a once over?

There are alot of good new features in version 10 - had a very thorough play with it, and am still finding all these bits and pieces and thinking, hey that is cool..

The centralised server admin is pretty good, and you are right - managing 100 servers from the 1 console will make things alot easier.

The other things I have seen and liked and always wanted to have but couldn't do it - is the ability to change the SQL database instance BE uses, and the ability to change the name of the server and keep all the info.

They have changed the way things work as well - Exchange and SQL when installed on a 2003 server are now backed up by default using VSS.
There is a new Domino agent - haven't played with this, as we don't run Domino, but from what I have been told it works really well.

IDR has changed, you can now create IDR boot disks, even after the server you are trying to restore has died.

Version 10 won't be perfect, (is any software?) but it is a good step in the right direction - there will be the knockers and people complaining that it doesn't work etc etc.
