I have a very over stretched network that is being replaced. But in the mean time I have very little disk space.

Does anyone know of a good way to backup old data and, once backup verified, remove it from the system?

Thanks for your help.

Mark

I think you can use W2k backup. Then write this backup on to CD-R matrix and then remove old data.
Did I understand you correctly?

Many thanks for the reply Victor.

The servers are currently NT4. The problem is that only some of the files within the foilders are not touched. So some need to be backed up, effectively archived, then deleted...whilst others need to stay in place.

I just wondered if there was an easier way than manually doing it.

May be it's not so clever solution , but it's easy to do. :)
I could just copy all the necessary files (as I understand it's some kind of documents or other files that are NOT related to OS itself) to the other PC on the network where a CD Writer . Then create a backup on CD-R.
That's all. No complex solutions , no problems... very simple and effective.

Hope it will be useful for you.

Good luck.

P.S. things must be simplified if possible . Reliability in your case is more important than using Advanced technologies.

Thanks.

I was just trying to avoid that as we are talking about 100,000's of files that need to be backedup and then removed, located in 1000's of folders.

oh well

anyway it will be necessary for you to check all those foledrs in a backup program - if you choosed one as a backup strategy. Futhermore , then it will be necessary to verify this backup. So, also a complex and time consuming solution.

Good luck in your hard work. :)
