Backing up efs keys

I have winxp pro and i am havin trouble backing up my efs key.
I have followed instructions from the following websites but i could not get it to work:

When i try and add the data recovery agent in secpol.msc i cannot add any users because there are no .cer files on my computer.

When i tried to "Double-click Certificates - Current User, double-click Personal, and then double-click Certificates." in mmc there was no certificate tab to click on inside current user/personal.

How do i succesfully backup my efs key?

I used cipher.exe /r to create a file, it made 2 files, are these the only files i need to backup my encryption key?
