hello,
a simple question (i hope). a user sets a desktop picture to one thing. when he ctrl-alt-del's to lock the computer it shows his old background and not the new one, when he unlocks the machine it goes back to the new picture. does anyone know how to fix this? never came across this one before.

Edward

Go to the Display properties sheet and set the background picture. Hit the Apply button twice.

thanks for the response but i was looking for where this hides in windows like the registry or what not. the user told me he deleted the picture and all is well again...<shrug>

Edward

Although all is well, you check

hkey_current_user\control panel\desktop\wallpaper
and
hkey_users\default\control panel\desktop\wallpaper

scottew, now this is what i was looking for! don't know if you can answer this one or not. is there another key in the registry you can look at to see what the background picture is when you CTRL-ALT-DEL the machine to lock it? i was wondering just in case this happens again i know where to go.

thanks!

Edward

Besides hkey_users\default, you will notice all the profiles under hkey_users\.

For example: hkey_users\S-1-5-18\control panel\desktop\wallpaper

As for why it changes when you LOCK the computer, I don't know. But when you LOG OFF the computer, it uses whatever wallpaper is in hkey_users\default\control panel\desktop
wallpaper
