background is little gray box in design view

I have it so that my background image is center (not tiled) and can change size in different sizes of screen area. I have to add layers to it but Design view it shows as a little gray box. It works in Internet Explorer perfectly fine.

thats because dw grays out tables so you know you are working in one
[afro] sometimes i just cant take it...then i realize its already to late
