Background image on main page is gray!!!!

I am a new and very frustrated Dreamweaver 3 user. I have been building my site with no problems up till yesterday. Under page properties I have a background image set. When I go to preview the page in a browser that background image will sometimes disappear, and then be a big gray box in my background in my workspace (in the preview it just isn't there). Please help me. I've looked at other inquiries but they haven't answered my questions exactly. I have read that you must save the image in the same folder as the page, which I have, so I don't think that's the problem. Also, does the size of the image matter? And is there any way to keep it from tiling throughout space? I only want it to appear once. Let me know if you can help. Like I said, I'm new so as simple an explanation as possible would be appreciated! Thanks!

me again! where/how do i make the background fixed? also, can you explain further about "the path my image has taken?" thanks!

when in DW hit control+j to get the bg properties.

When checking a link look to see what the code is doing.

../ = jumping up a folder level

/folder name = it is running all links from the root.

Try writing out the path it would take you to get from one to the other in explorer and compare.

as for the path like manic says there be no path like c:\ccxx\yyxzz
then then will only work on your machine ont on any other mahine

the path to any images must only contain ../ and this will take the browser to the previous directory
