Hey all,

I'm back. Is there any easy way to find my older
posts?

Guess what? Brought my laptop in for servicing.
It was like a movie! Tech could NOT reproduce
any of my constant BSOD!

What could happen to system on the way there??

Only thing is, he's not doing anything really
real world - like running multi programs/ transferrering big USB files. Just piddly
- stuff. Run Media player, etc.

I reformatted to C drive to bring in. But I had
done this 3 times in 2 weeks to no help!

very confused.

Click on 'My Threads' under the horse at top left.

And computers are "she" not "he", just like ships.

thanks, thats easy.

No, I meant the tech - he wasnt doing real
world. But SHE wasnt either ha!

I was kidding about the sex of computers by the way. I am not sure there is (yet?) a formal grammatical distinction made.

I still think you have a device issue. Have you checked for firmware updates for your optical drives?

I've always just used "it." But the plural of "computer mouse" is "computer mouses" - of that I'm sure. (It's so you can distinguish mouses from mice...s.)

It could also be a random combination of things you just happen to always be running at the same time. Why didn't/don't you have the support guy ("him," right?) set down and run through a typical workday? (Though, bcastner, your intuition is probably better than mine.)

..........well I didnt bring in the event logs
( clean install) but they said this wouldnt help
anyway.

they appeared to be certified techs, but didnt
even have as much diagnostic as me - sandra
, etc.

...........there standard lookover showed NO
problems.

..........But Sent mine in . gave me a loaner.
( exact same model)

loaner RUNS BEAUTIFULLY - no crashes yet. ( my usual install of programs)

thanks

The thing with diagnosing errors are that aren't obvious like missing drivers etc can be a major pain in the a**. I worked for a company that had a lot of customers with weird and wonderfull problems that where very hard to diagnostic.

If you have a machine that randomly looks up etc you really need to put it through a proper thorough testing cycle. We bought a software called PC-Check and had it running looping cycles for hours upon end to try and find where the problem was. Because this program ran in DOS you could take Windows out of the equation.

But sometimes it just wasn't possible to find anything wrong with the machine. But if you test it long enough you usually find the problems. PSU problems are one of the worst as they can be totally random and not happen for weeks. Although since your machine is a laptop its probably something else as you have your battery to fall down on if your psu starts failing.

I would demand that they test your laptop thoroughly and well if you get it back and it keeps happening you could try and let them keep your loan laptop as you said its the same spec and let them keep yours.

Make the best use of what is in your power, and take the rest as it happens.

...........Hopefully they replace the board
at authorized service. If not, and mysteriously doesnt fix it self. I guess I
could try and exchange. Yeah , this one runs
like a dream. ( that one a nightmare! )

Id have to peek at the paperwork to see - its
pretty stringent about what they will do.
