awstats problem

I'm having trouble getting awstats working on my server.

My report is empty with no data.

I have read the FAQ and Documents. Specifically I verified/tried the 3 steps outlined in the awstats FAQ question : EMPTY OR NULL STATISTICS
REPORTED

My apache installation is using the combined log format, i deleted superfluous awstats.*conf files, and I verified the actual log file to ensure that there are visits
for THIS month.

I verified the LogFile directive in my <virtualdomain>.conf file.

Any suggestions?

I'm running standard
Server version: Apache/2.0.40
on RedHat 9.0

I have the latest version of awstats (I believe 6.0.2 or something like that).

Is there a better log viewing program available?
