I have recently downloaded a movie off of Kazaa and it plays fine on my computer running windows XP. When I put it on a disk and take it to my computer running windows 95, with Windows Media Player 6.4, however, it says unable to download the appropriate decompresser. I know that the problem is it is not hooked up to the internet. Is their some cite I could go to to download this decompresser to allow me to watch the AVI files. All help is appreciated, thanks!

AVI files usually use some sort of compression. The most popular found nowadays is DIVX. There are many versions available. You'll want to install the latest DIVX 5.02 codecs.

- The 3.0 MB version should be all you need

If that doesn't help, then you may need to upgrade Windows Media Player to 7.1, though I'm not sure if that version plays well under Win95. I think it is really meant for Win98 and later. ~cdogg

I have tried divx but it tells me i'm missing a .dll file, and windows media player 7.1 won't install on my windows 95 computer.

What DLL file is it telling you that you are missing? You could d/l that file off the net and see if you can install DiVx after that's done. Here is a link to a site that you can search for that specific DLL.

Once you've found it, just make sure to save it to your Windows System folder and then try the DiVx install again. Enkrypted

Not related to the missing DLL file, but more about the codecs you can get.. this is the best site I've ever used:

hope that helps, although the divx is the most common codec for playing AVI files anyway.

thanks for all your help but Iam still having problems. After installing the .dll files for divx I now recieve an error message that says procedure entry point GetDiskFreeSpaceExA could not be located in the dynamic link library Kernel32.dll.

The site that adamjones81 recommended worked great and told me I need a mpeg-4 codec. The problem is its solution is to download the newest windows media player, which doesn't help my problem.

Thanks for all the help so far, more help would be appreciated!
