I've had similar problems with other services but since I don't use AVG I can't say that the following will work. If this is what I think it is, uninstalling won't work neither will re-installing. Try this:
[tab]1) Go to your services. It usually is in the control panel. Find the service that is hung.
[tab]2) Disable this service. If there are multiple services for AVG, stop them and disable them, too.
[tab]3) Reboot.
[tab]4) After rebooting, you should be able to uninstall AVG.
[tab]5) Check services again and make sure the "bad" service is gone. If not, you may have to manually delete it.
[tab]6) Re-install AVG.
