AVG free version - must reboot after update

I have the 'free' version of AVG on my Win2K box at home. For a while, it would simply take the most recent virus pattern file via update and be done... but after a few weeks it began to ask me to reboot after each update.

Is this 'reboot after each update' normal? Are other Win2K users having the same thing occur?
