Does anyone have any extended experience with Avaya voice over IP, concerning it's quality, stability, reliability
and any problems experienced with this Avaya setup. We are looking at installing an Avaya S8300 at a critical remote office remoted off of an IP enable Avaya Definity PBX via either a Frame relay circuit or a point to point T-1.
Thanks,

JE.

Fairly stable product. I would go with the T1 though as you can use this for both your network access and the VOIP.

If the other site is that critical then ask you Avaya Business Partner about a remote survivability configuration using the 8700 and 8300 series devices.

This will give you a better controlled configuration in the event of the T1 ever going down, (and it will..)

Thanks for the response! I believe we are looking at remote survivability with the Avaya G700 Media Gateway and Avaya MultiVantage software.

Depending upon your deployment, survivability can be achieved by having a second S8300 server acting as an LSP to the first Server. This provides 100% redundancy in call processing.

Another option is to use multiple gatekeeper addresses and allow the phone to register directly with the main definity in the event of a loss of the local S8300. You wouldn't have local trunks, analog, etc... but someone could still place a call.

If connectivity is critical I would suggest that your current switch be at least version 9.5, Medpro firmware upgraded to FW45 or above, and C-LAN at least a TN799Cv3. James Middleton
