Anyone been offered this? I'm scared. Avaya is offering to do all of our scheduled reboots, monitor voice traffic and do health checks on our systems. For the reboots they are doing it on our schedule with two weeks notice so we can prepare our internal staff and inside whatever maintenance window we define. The health checks will come every six months and they will report any firmware and patching that's out of date as well as any preventative measures needed to ensure continued functionality. I mean, this is all stuff that I do now but Avaya just called and asked if they could take it all off my plate. How much are they asking me to pay for this service you ask? Nothing, it's all free. Anyone else been given this line? And what are your thoughts? I know this is a pilot service so the only thing I can think is that a year from now they are going to say "Okay, pilot over, pay up or get out.

I would never ever do this
Why ? because they are not on site !

Who is being blamed if something fails ?

They are being blamed if something fails and will dispatch a technician to the site in addition to contacting our NOC. Again, no charge for the dispatch even though I only pay for 8x5 maintenance.

I currently do everything remotely (mostly because my company can't afford to fly me around the globe everytime I need to upgrade firmware because I would totally be into the travel) so the only difference between them doing it and me is that I don't have to wake up at O'dark thirty.

Still i would not do it
It is your job and you are then giving it away !

That is one way to look at it and I have thought about that but predominantly my job is to design and install systems and convert my company's current DCS network to VoIP so not having to deal with the little stuff could certainly free me up for more interesting things.

I'm just scared because they are giving it away. Until about a year ago I self-maintained at another organization so I fully understand taking ownership of your gear but now I have 25 systems. Two weeks ago I had 23, a year ago the company had 16. Having Avaya take care of the housework is kind of appealling.

Or get another college
Better for you and your company
When you are on a holiday who is going to take over ?

It sounds to me like they are trying to get their foot in the door so to speak. I would expect them to do a good job keeping patches updated and the little minor things, but you are right to look for this to be a billable service soon.

What has Avaya ever given you with your 8X5 maintenance agreement?? Not much. So I see this as Avaya trying to get some easy maintenance work started up for a few extra bucks. Not saying that this would not be a good program for some that can not do their own. It may even be worth the cost to you if you want to get the little things off your plate. But that will depend on the cost.

Just my 2 cents

mikeydidit, I agree, maintenance is a joke and I'm tired of having to argue with a Tier 0 technician about whether or not I have exhausted their flowsheet to determine if hardware is defective. Hardware replacement, of course, being the only area in which avaya has proved helpful.

I'm scared of this RPS thing because once I get comfortable not having to work around 7 different time zones' outage windows avaya is going to start billing for the service. The rest of my team is all gung ho about it though so it is moving forward. I was just wondering if anyone else out there was, a) being offered this and b) taking the offer.
