Is it true if you put a refurbished board in your system it will void the mainenance/warrenty on the PBX?

No. In fact if Avaya brings you a pack from their crash kit, it will probably be a refurbished pack. What they are talking about is installing circuit packs in your switch that are not certified from Avaya.

probably. I was told by a biz partner it would ruin my maintenance/warrenty.

If its not avaya certified would it void a warranty? i can understand them not replacing that part, but nothing else?

The whole object is to get you to buy from an Avaya Business partner and not the secondary or grey market. I did just the opposite. I loaded up the switch with secondary market stuff and then got the maintenance agreement. I also at one time bought secondary market products and had Avaya certify them still saved a ton of money VS their pricing.

Mikey

but if you have a maintenance agreement in place and buy grey market then what?

How do you have avaya certify them?

I am on a maintenance assist program. They do not cover the packs or sets. I just get technical support from them.

You just have to have a tech come out on site and install the pack and verify it works to have it certified. I'm thinking the cost is around $70 per pack if they're onsite already, otherwise you have to pay a trip charge as well. Atleast that's what I have experienced in the past.

I did have one case where I installed a remote EPN at a site and paid to have it "certified" and added to maintenance since it had no I.L.#. They just charged for the visit (about $180). They didn't care how many packs or phones were installed. I wouldn't worry at all about adding some packs to an existing switch.
