Hi

Firstly let me say that I am not a telecoms engineer, although I have a firm understanding of how switches etc work as I am an IT systems engineer.

One of my clients has an obsolete Avaya index switch. This switch was installed in 2001, the client has no support for the unit what so ever.

I have managed to telnet to the device and have admin access to it, however I can't work out how to do a number of things.

Firstly: - I need to know how to allocate a DDI number to an extension number.

Secondly: - I would like to be able to see which DDI's are currently assigned to extension numbers

Thirdly: - I would like to know how to assign extension numbers to specific ports on the switch itself, so I don't have to keep a spreadsheet record showing which numbers are on each port.

Sorry to post this in a definity forum, but a friend recommended that I post here in case anyone has some old index skills.

Thanks in advance!

Obsolete? doubtful.
Avaya index switch? doubtful.

Post your hardware platform and Definity / CM software version and someone will be able to help you.

See link below to help determine this.

In INDeX you have to go to in to Automatic Route Selection.
There you have String Analysis
Search for a free entry in Translations and create a translation "replace x digits with <your extension number> were x is the total length of the DDI number without the leading zero, remeber the translation number
Then go into string analyse and create a new string and enter the DDI number without the leading zero, apply the translation you created earlier.
You can find the manual here
