Hi,
I just installed Vista Ultimate 64-bit and I'm wondering which Anti-virus software works best with it? I checked Symantec, McAfee & CA and they claim to be compatible with Vista, but they don't mention if they mean 32-bit or 64-bit. I saw some footnotes about some components only working on 32-bit, like Anti-Phishing only working on 32-bit browsers...
Are there any that fully support 64-bit Vista?

Also, is the Windows firewall any good, or would it be worth it to get a 3rd party firewall?

I use the following on my Ultimate x64:

Antivirus:
AntiVir - works fine & no problems so far... the free version...

Firewall:
Comodo Personal Firewall - better than the build in firewall... and I recommend it above others, and it is free...

I've used AVG Free 7.5, but it ocasuonally hung my Vista X64 if it hadn't 'seen' (been turned off) the internet & updates for 3 or more days.
Didn't re-install with 8.0 so can't testify for that.

Switched to Avast Free and it seems rather Ok, though I've heared/read some 'complaints' about it not beeing able to catch online treats properly. Haven't been attacked yet, so I'm not certain that has any ground.

%SystemRoot%\system32\WF.msc typed in the Start Run box (as an Administrator) will lead you to the Built-in Vista Firewall and running it in Advanced Security mode. The same thing is possible by typing "Firewall" in the Start Menu Search Box and running the Advanced Security version of the Firewall as an Administrator.

AVG8 free seems to run OK on my 64-bit Vista Ultimate as did the older AVG version.

Eset Nod for the AV and I am using the inbuilt Windows Firewall, not had any issues so far.

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.

Avast supposedly has a 64 bit version. My Vista Ultimate machine (32bit) absolutely will not install AVG. However AVG works fine on my Vista Home Premium laptop. Anyways, Avast 32bit works well!
