Automatically recognizes recipients 1

Is there any way for the Outlook to recognize the recipient while typing his name? I always have to select names from the list and I was wondering if Outlook has this feature.

Hi, dark2

Go to tools/options
On the References tab, click on Email Options button
Click on Advanced Email Options button
Check "Automatic Name Checking" box
OK/OK/OK

That should do it.

Hi Jock,

This option was already checked and I had no idea. We have different contacts' lists. Do you think this is the problem? Is there any place I can specify a contacts' list?

Are we talking about Outlook 2000? If so, NO it will not 'Autocomplete'. It will auto-suggest however if you just type the first 3 or 4 letters of the name, you'll see a red wavy line. You can click on the name for the choice list or if you just finish your message, when you click 'send' you'll be prompted to pick the recipient from the possible choices. (If there's only 1 possible choice, it will just send).

Hi Jock,

I've just looked at the about Microsoft Outlook and is written Microsoft Outlook 2000 SP-3 Corporate or Workgroup. I will be more than happy if the wavy lne appears but nothing appears. What it does is when you have only person with that specific last name it gives the link, but sometimes the names are long or I am not sure how to write their whole name. When I click 'send' there's a message informing I have to have at least one name on Bcc, Cc or To.

Thank you! I'll try later but from what I read I think that this is exactly what I need.

The autocomplete feature is based entirely off of the nickname file. When you successfully send some an email, their name is put in the nickname file. If a message bounces right away, that entry is removed from the nickname file. It does not provide realtime lookup against your contacts or Global Address List.
