I know that would work, but this is for a large campus environment and they want a tech to be able to verify the number instantly by calling. Thanks for that tip though.
Thats not a good answer, it won't work in a DID environment, it would tell you whatever line you called out on, not the number you are on inside the PBX, but thanks.
it will work on did if you have clid set up to xmit the did. but no on the ani in house, i use trac on my set, when techs call me i see the ext and print the tn to my term. then i copy it and use the paste function for stat isu and/or changes.. if your alone on campus the operator or voice mail.. i had a pager with remote notify that would page me from the number that left the number on my display. that was a little faster then calling back in to mail, but some fool gave my pager number out, now it's "broke"
Just have them call the switchboard or any display type phone on the switch. They will have the info on their screen, and they can tell the tech what line they are on. Of course they will be relying on someone to give them the info, but it's the quickest way I know of off the top of my head.
