If you have to have a windows xppro cdrom to use this feature. Question is what if you bought the upgrade cd from xp home? DOes this cd work or are you still out of luck because xp home does not support ASR?

The upgrade CD is the same as the standard CD, except it looks for an existing installation when you first run it. Shouldn't be an issue. Good luck.

The backup function works as it should in Home edition and can be used to restore, but the ASR function is not compatible and does not work with Home edition. It makes no difference which CD you have, if that's what you're asking. To restore XP Home from an upgrade CD, you will need to reinstall XP using the 'qualifying product' CD when prompted. Then you can install the backup utility and restore your old backup.
