autoexec.nt file

after deleting a visioneer product with the intent on a clean re-installation, i get a window popup as follows
16bit windows subsystem
c:\winnt\system32\autoexec.nt. the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications, choose close or terminate.
can anyone tell me what happen and how to fix. i am also getting this window now with other microsoft applications like office.

While written in an XP Service Pack 2 context, the principle is the same:

. or open notepad, and copy and paste the below as autoexec.nt and place in %windir%\system32 :
