Hi all,

I'm currently evaluating Novell SBS 6. One of the questions that is coming up is: will it work with Autocad Inventor 8? Does anyone have any experience with this on a SBS 6 server? We are planning on using the SBS 6 server as a file server.
Currently we are using Netware 4.1 and are experiencing problems with Acad Inventor 8 (files being saved to the server, but then not being able to open them again, etc)
Naturally, our other choice is MS SBS 2003 (I'll be evaluating that in the near future).

Thanks,
Dan

Dan, most file system problems on NetWare 6.x relate to client file caching and oplocks. You can disable both of these on the server and it will resolve most problems.

I do have a couple clients that do autocad work, although I'm not sure which versions. When you're evaluating the NW 6 server, make these changes from the console:

SET CLIENT FILE CACHING ENABLED=OFF
SET LEVEL 2 OPLOCKS ENABLED=OFF

Marvin,

Thanks for the advice. I'll certainly try that and reply back here with the results.

Question: Does the level 2 oplocks have anything to do with file locking?

Thanks again,
Dan
