Does Outlook 2000 only auto archive when it is started? or will it run automatically per the Auto archive settings in the Tools/options/other?

You must enable auto archiving first in order for it to be 'on'. Yes you can go through Tools, options, other to enable this feature. I don't understand what you mean 'will it run automatically per the Auto archive settings in the Tools/options/other?' Yes it will run automatically once enabled. It will create a file called archive.pst. That is where you will find all of your archived email. -Brad

Sorry, I have heard that Outlook only auto archives on startup, therefore, if you have it set to archive every 3 days, and leave it on a week, that it does not archive. This does not make sense to me, so I am trying to confirm it. I am troubleshooting some archive issues. Thanks for the quick response.

ahh. Yes Outlook will only start archiving the emails that you have already received. Also it will not delete the messages that are 3 days old unless you have opened Outlook again. So if you haven't checked your emails for a week they will still be in your archive until Outlook has been opened again. -Brad

ok, so what of the emails in my inbox that I am wanting to move to the archive? The auto archive will not move them until outlook restarts correct? Sorry to ask again, I just want to make sure I understand.

Don't be sorry. That is what these forums are for...lots of questions :) There is a big misconception of what auto archiving actually does. By enabling this feature it will automatically save the emails to a file called archive.pst. Once an email reaches a certain age it will delete the email saved to this file. There is nothing more you need to do. (meaning you do not manually store emails there. Outlook will automatically do this for every email you receive.) If you need to store certain emails that were not in the archive before this feature was enabled don't worry. Outlook will archive all the email you currently have according to date. Does that answer your question? -Brad

I beleive it does, as long as the autoarchive runs, I am going to restart Outlook periodically anyway just to make sure. Thanks for you patience.
