Hi everyone,
We currently do web hosting, etc. but are wanting to offer dial-up internet services. We lready have the bandwidth and will be purchasing Lucent/Acend Max units for the dial-in portion.

I am looking for a cheap or free method of authenticating the users. I thing Microsoft Radius is too hard to get rolling. Anyone know of any other software/packages that will run on a Win2k server and handle authentication?

WOrst case scenario we install a Linux box and run TACACS (?). I prefer a win2k solution though.

Hmmm you want to authenticate users for a business and you want it on the cheap or even better free??

So the security of your network and users again is worth how much?

You have only have a few choices.. free is Linux with TACACS+ or Radius. Neither are easy to setup and require an investment on your part to learn how to config it.

If you want a decent management package, take a look at Cisco's ACS.. if you are careful, you might find a used 2.5 package availible somewhere since people are moving to 3 right now. There are both Windows NT and Solaris versions.

I have a selection of TACACS software here:

Here is a Linux radius server:
