authentication problems

Have setup a site with "integrated windows authentication". The sites users has a range of builds from 95 to 2000 professional.
Have started a test run on the authentication asking for our users to try logging into it.
From the log I can see that it works for 95 to 2000 users.
Some of our users are having some problems logging on.
For most it is a case of not even seeing the logon screen it will take them directly to a default page saying they are not authorised to view this page.

Have setup a test machine with 98 and IE 5.00.2614.3500 and tested it and have no probems logging on.

Have checked some of the users builds one is running ME and IE 5.5 have tested this build as well and it works for me.

Does anyone had a similar problem or an answer for this?
Have also tried lowering the security but it does not fix it.
We do not want to lower the security level as they will be updating a database which we would not want anyone to hack into

Did you check the folder and file permission of your site.
When auhtentication is used, those permissons regulate the file access. At least when you use IIS.
Which users have problems? All 95 users?
First, try to exclude that there is common base of environment causing this problem, for example win95a+Winsock1+IE4

All check and working fine.
The problem does not seem to be OS or IE version related.
It seems to be a configeration problem on the users side.
ie they are in an NT domain and it will not allow them to log into a 2000 enviroment domain (have already check that though)

Did you check if their IP-addresses are allowed to connect to the website. Do you use a proxy? If so check, that they bypass local addresses. In the IE-LANconfig.

I should of specified before that it is a "Internet"
web site.
Only users can't assess the site.
Am slowly coming to a resolution on this one. Spoke to one of the users tonight and went through the security settings. Changed the Logon settings to "prompt for user name and password".
This computer is now getting a logon form appearing. It does not show up with the domain text box though.
Insteed of a user typing in JSMITH/DOMAINNAME and then password we would prefer it to be JSMITH.
