I am headed to a customer sight soon to replace a hard drive in an Audix Map 5 that is runing RAID back-up. One drive is still working fine, the second is dead.

I have no problems replacing the drive, I have built computers most of my adult life. But then what do I do? I can find no documentation for what is necessary once the new drive is in place.

I have found documents on what to do if you replace the only drive the unit has, but not replacing the back-up drive in a RAID configuration.

Any help? Thanks in advance...

about ten years ago, i replaced a drive in a MAP100. when i called the TSO out in Denver, the engineer told me that you pretty much just plug it in and walk away. it rebuilds itself over a day or so. that may hold true for your situation as well.

That's the way it worked on my Modular Messaging with my backup drive. Plugged it in and it just started to hum away! I walked back to my desk, checked my logs on my browser interface and watched the thing rebuild itself over a matter of a few hours.

Thanks for that. If it doesn't, I'm in a world of hurt, cause there is NOTHING out there...

you sure it's a MAP5? i've never seen RAID on that, not even on a MPA40. only on a MAP100. not that it couldn't exist, just in the hundreds of customers that i went around to i never saw it.

Very sure! [bigglasses]

Desc.: Premier 1 - INTUITY - Major VP-RAID a
System: INTUITY MAP5 v5 or 5.1

The reason the drive went bad was because there was about an inch of dust on the filter, and no airflow. It's been around forever. And they don't want to pay for preventative maintenance.

take a picture or two of the inside of the box please. i would like to see how Lucent/Avaya shoved an extra drive in the box. if i remember correctly, the single drive MAP5 is mounted vertically.

Yes, it is mounted vertically. The two drives are screwed together, then screwed to the side of the box, right behind the filter...

I have been on site once to change it, but the supplier had sent a scuzzy drive instead of an IDE. Hopefully they get it right this time and I don't waist another trip.
