We use MF 1.8 and are designing next generation Win2003 network. Our users have expressed a wish for digital dictation (essentially saving audio files on the server) and voice recognition (ViaVoice, FreeSpeech, etc). Is this technically possible, either for LAN users (10/100Mbps), or remote users (DSL or modem)? Terminals are a mixture of PCs and Relisys/Exan diskless units.

KerryT,

Don't have any real world experience of this but can give you some thoughts (How welcome they will be is debateable ;) )

As far as I understood your question regarding the LAN side I am assuming your considering that for terminal/citrix access to the apps also.

My initial thoughts are negative, as far as I am aware (and someone please correct me if i'm wrong) sound can be mapped back to the client, but it would require that the sound card (and relative drivers) be mapped back to the server from each client... something I shudder to consider.

However, I am by no means any kind fo expert but would be very interested in others ideas on this.

Thanks for your thoughts. If this can't readily be done, it looks like Citrix is not much use for delivering apps in a law office. K

Hi,

Multi Media isn't supported under Terminal Service, therefore Citrix.

Only limited Audio playback is available and is pants over low bandwidth, it's not too good on LAN either!

Citrix/TS isn't suitable for all deployments.

Cheers,
Carl.
