Is there a cable that will connect to my laptop's S/PDIF to my stereo receiver's RCA jack? I'd like to play music from my laptop through my home stereo. I went to Radio Shack but the salesperson had no idea what I was referring to.

Thanks in advance for any help

Its a Phono to RCA cable like this:

Just plug it into your Earphone jack on the laptop, and the other side towards your stereo receiver, and you're set.

Thanks for the response and the picture. This appears to be what I need.

I went to Radio Shack but the salesperson had no idea what I was referring to.

That's just sad. [bigcheeks]

I don't know what a "S/PDIF" is either. What Vacunita posted has a mini-phone jack on it. More commonly referred to as "one of those small headphone jacks".

Well, I didn't mention the word S/PDIF the salesperson (LOL). I asked for a cable that would allow me to play music from my laptop thru my home stereo receiver.

Then that is sad.

You may need some sort of interface

S/PDIF is a DIGITAL interface
RCA's is a type of connector and can be either analogue or digital. So make sure that you are going from like to like.

If it's a 2.5mm / 1/8th inch stereo jack (as pictured) it is NOT S/PDIF.
Have a look here for some help.

S/PDIF is the Sony/Phillips Digital InterFace.

It's either a single RCA jack, or a fiber-optic cable.

However, I haven't seen a laptop with S/PDIF on it yet, but every laptop has headphone outs, which means you would need the cable shown.
