Attendant Console 302B Handset Problem 1

I just pulled a 302B console off the shelf and turned on a second attendant console. I'm not sure of the history of the unit, but the handset packaged with it doesn't work. I have swapped plugs, cables, and handsets with my working console and it appears that the 302B requires a particular handset.

I haven't been able to search TekTips and Google/Avaya searches have all been useless. Any ideas what the requirements are and/or what other units use the same handset?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Callmasters use the same handset as required by the console. 8400 series handsets will not work.

Thanks for the input. I don't have any Callmasters, but I did find a unit that worked. It was a very old 2500 unit! Must be back in the day when things were "carbon" dated. :)

On the handset that works, at the bottom of the ear piece, there should be a small, recessed rectangular area. There is a part number stamped into that recess. That is the part number you need. Note that this is indeed different than the standard 8400 "K" style handset part number....

Consoles are wierd and strange. Headsets and handsets are usually unique to them and one handset sometimes will work with a 302a but not with a 302b. I had a great list of all the complexities of them while working at AVaya, but alas, that is history now.

I have a similar problem. Out of the blue one day,
our attendant console handset stopped working.

It is a 302B1-A-03 ... Anyhow, swapped out two-prong
adapters, coiled cords, etc, and only a headset style
unit worked, where you can unplug the headset half-way
down the cord.

Finally decided to put another console in service, and
this one also will only work with the headset, not the
handset.

Is there some odd setting in the console or attendant
parameters on the switch that is causing this?

I'm at a loss to figure this one out. Our receptionists
are getting irritated at not being able to use a handset.

Attd console handset usually has a dial 1 through 9 on the unit. This is to increase/decrease the volume. I use Walker handsets. 1800-HANDSET.

Or you could google for one. Part number W6-K-M

This is a problem where only one side of the conversation
is heard. No problem with the earpiece, but switched out
handsets, 2-prong adapters, and the phone itself.

Something SHOULD work with a handset, but nothing does.
Only the earpiece...

And there is not a volume control on the handset or the
adapter, so it is not an issue concerning a volume control.

Have you tried using a headset with an amplifer? That should work.

We recently had the same problem. I changed out consoles, cables, handsets, etc.

Would you believe that someone had already switched out the ORIGINAL handset with a 8400 series handset before they called me, and that was the problem.

The 8400 series handset has a square mouthpiece, and the mouthpiece on handset that was on the console was the old-timey round type.

I replaced the square handset with the round type and it worked.

hope this helps.
