Hello all, I am looking for a way of tracking people entering and leaving the building.

I am hoping to use an Access database to be able to track a persons name, Date, Time In & Out, with the possibility of also having a calculated field showing how much time was spent in the building.

I am looking for some ideas on where to start, or even if there is already something available that does this at reasonable cost as I work for a Non-Profit charity based in the UK.

Any help would be greatly accepted from anywhere ;)

Many Thanks
Dave

I guess what Duane is asking is, how do you propose to log the ins and outs? Will it be automated in some way, or will it be a paper log that each individual keeps or a paper gate log.

The data sturcture is pretty simple...

EmpID, Date/Time, In/Out

No calculated field. That's done at report time.

I am planning on using a Barcoded ID badge that will be scanned on entry/exit by the person entering/leaving the building.

I am now also looking at the possibilty of using this system for a fire evacuation log if that is possible, so each time someone swiped in/out it would print a record to a printer - possibly something like a dot matrix - if this is possible I am bnot sure ?

Many thanks
Dave

Generally the company that provides the badge system will have software that could be used or at least a recommendation.

"...using this system for a fire evacuation log ..."

Are you kidding???

I work in a plant with a badge access rotating gate entry/exit system. When the fire bell rings, ain't no badge swiping!!! The alternate LOCKED access doors open. You sure do not want a line queued up with ANYONE waiting to swipe their badge.

Our factory also has a log for various emergencies. No one swipes on the way out during a fire alarm. Reports printed by security should be fairly accurate regarding who is in the plant and should be gathered in groups outside.

We use C-CURE with proximity cards. I can leave my card in my wallet in my back pocket.

My intention wasn't to have a large queue of people on exiting in the event of a fire, it was to have the last known record printed.

Example so if someone swiped into the building their last known presence was ONSITE so in the event of a fire last status was IN.

If that makes sense....

kryptor,
That's how our system works. I expect our system with badge creation, proximity readers, software, etc was fairly pricey. We also have 24/7 security personnel located at the one entry/exit used by all employees and contractors.
