Hi everyone! I have a problem on our Exchange 5.5 server. Users sending .zip attachments see their attachments growing by approximately 30-40% and that growth usually makes the file hit past our 10Mg limit and then drops the mail.

We're running Netshield and Groupshield 4.5 on these servers.

Anyone ever see this phenomena?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

HI.

This is normal.

The email is converted to MIME or other format, and this encoding makes the attachments "grow".

You should use other methods for large files transfer, like:
* FTP, PCAW or other protocols.
* spanning to several files. Winrar and many other archivers can do that very well. Send each part in a separate mail.
* There is always the option to burn a CD and send it by mail or other old fashion way. Beleive me, this works great.

Bye

Thank for the response Yizhar! We did see a vague reference about this in a Microsoft Exchange book, but weren't sure.

At least we know we haven't configured anything incorrectly or are having issues with our AV software.

Thanks again!
